The Share the Mic and the Money Now first inaugural event was a remarkable opportunity that provided a great ladder to elevate amazing Black entrepreneurs.

With equality being one of our core values, we at Salesforce, believe that investing in our communities is integral to advancing racial equality. Last year we were honored to offer multiple benefits to participants, including mentorship and enablement.

This year, with Share the Green, we expect these positive benefits to grow!

– Monica Roberts, Salesforce

Selected women-owned businesses will pitch their businesses to sponsoring corporations.

We will celebrate Women’s Equality Day by encouraging corporations to establish firm spending commitments to expand female voices and revenue in the communities served.

What Does Participating in Share the GreenSM Look Like?

Share the GreenSM is a virtual event that will engage women-owned businesses across the U.S., giving them access to a robust corporate supplier network and a platform for growth. The overall goal of Share the GreenSM is to advance female supplier diversity in the corporate supply chain. This unique opportunity welcomes women-owned businesses across a variety of industries to apply for your chance to meet executives from some of the leading corporations across the U.S. Applications are open starting June 14.

Share the GreenSM is organized into three phases: initial applications, an educational incubator period and a final opportunity to prepare and present a pitch. Successful applicants will be selected to participate in the incubator program to grow their skills, networks and hone their pitches. Businesses should plan on committing 3-5 hours per week for the duration of the incubator, where each week focuses on the following topics:

Covering the Basics & Content for the Perfect Pitch
Understanding Your Value Proposition with a Business Assessment, Insurance 101 and Goal Setting
Knowing, Understanding and Working with Your Corporate Clients
Branding Your Business
Final Pitch Preparation and Protecting Your Business’s Cybersecurity

At the end of the incubator period, chosen women-owned businesses will be offered the opportunity to participate in the pitch phase, which consists of a practice pitch with feedback, followed by the opportunity on August 24 and 25, 2021 to present a 10-minute pitch for consideration by corporations across the U.S. for an opportunity to become a new corporate supplier. While no guarantee is made that any number of actual engagement(s) from WM or any other company will be offered (all such decisions are in the sole discretion of the applicable company), it is hoped that participation in the process will help further the goals of diversity and inclusion that are the foundation of the Share the GreenSM initiative. See the Waste Management Terms & Conditions for complete details.

Share The Mic and The Money Now 2020 was AMAZING!! Listening and learning from the thoughtful conversations from women leaders, presenting to corporations, participating in the training sessions, networking with the 40 powerhouse Black women business owners in my cohort, and gaining a mentor through the mentorship program was incredible.

Since participating, I've worked on several projects for Waste Management, done business with many women in my cohort, and taken advantage of the continued learning opportunities they've provided through companies such as Egon Zehnder and Salesforce. And I love my mentor! She's so sweet and has been intentional about connecting me to opportunities.

This experience has been truly invaluable. Thank you so much Waste Management, Greater Houston Black Chamber and Leadership Houston for providing this platform for Black women. Let's Go!!

– Tiffany Williams, Twice Media Productions

Benefits of Participation

For the hundreds of women-owned businesses selected to participate in the incubator program, Share the GreenSM means getting a foot in the door. Identifying, accessing and navigating a corporate client may be challenging or nearly impossible. The incubator can provide businesses with the educational and informational resources and support needed to help understand how to be effective and successful in engaging corporations.

Additionally, participating women-owned businesses will have an opportunity to form a network of peers for continuous insights and advice.

If selected to proceed to the pitch phase, women-owned businesses that are not already certified can also receive beneficial support and guidance in becoming a certified Woman-owned Business Enterprise (WBE) through one of two national certification agencies: the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) or the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).

Share the Mic and the Money was one of those moments that marks a tremendous light during one of the darkest times in 2020. After losing 50% of our client base due to the pandemic and being emotionally drained and mentally exhausted by race and deadly police brutality, an opportunity to focus on new opportunities for my business was the fire I needed to kick my focus into overdrive!

Participating in this program not only advanced our partnership with the Greater Houston Black Chamber but also provided me with a mentor to continue this journey with. WM created an incredible platform that invited me to share my companies existing capabilities and as a result, received two letters of intent from the participating corporations. WM, GHBC, Leadership Houston, and most importantly my colleagues increased our firm's visibility.

I am so proud to be part of the inaugural cohort of women-owned businesses to benefit from this program.

– Kyra Hardwick, The Kyra Company
